About his work :
Mitra’s paintings are so conspicuously striking from his contemporaries is his very detailed style and the hypnotic gaze of the protagonist alluring the viewer to almost enter into his paintings. In Mitra’s paintings the male body plays a vital role, but it is the portrayal of the body by implication rather than mere imitation, which makes these paintings so palpable. He always tries to make the body speak through its attitude and position. In his paintings body plays the main expressive medium thus a torso or simply the back , hands, arms, toes and the intricacy of veins are his modes, through which he gives equal preferences to his content and pictorial /visual aspects for he believes unless and until the various ingredient that have gone into the making of the images are perfect the theme cannot succeed. In his paintings the varied illusions of the imagery takes the onlooker into the more fine aspects and content of the theme of the painting.
