Description
With a strong leaning towards Lord Krishna, Pichhwai art depicts Krishna in different moods and postures on both cloth and paper. This ancient art form is passed on from one generation to the next in the holy town of Nathdwara in Rajasthan. Like many other Rajasthani towns, Nathdwara is a cluster of small whitewashed dwellings huddled together protectively, as though shrinking from a relentless sun. A close look will reveal a much larger and more imposing structure that seems to have grown by accretion – room added to room, and floor piled upon floor, oblivious to architectural symmetry.
