Description
TRADITION OF INDIA : SURYA ARGHYA
The sun is creator of life on earth. Since ancient times, it has been a symbol of might and glory. Chhath is a festival dedicated to the revered sun deity. The festival itself is personified as Chhathi Maiya, meaning mother Chhath. Devotees aspire to please the sun deity through severe penance that includes fasting and observance of purity of mind and body. Devotees pay their respect to the setting as well as rising sun, through a ritual known as Surya Argh. Gratitude is expressed towards the setting sun for bestowing its rays upon us throughout the day. The rising sun is welcomed and worshipped for giving us hope of a great day ahead.
